Jamaal Williams (RB, DET) - 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Sleepers

ANALYSIS: 

Williams is no stranger to being split out as a receiver from his time in Green Bay and we already know Detroit views him as an “A” running back thanks to new offensive coordinator, Anthony Lynn (per The Athletic).

So you’ve got someone with the between-the-tackles wind in his sails who can also be a reliable receiver. The 26-year-old RB caught 31-of-35 targets in 2020, giving him a catch rate above 85% for the second consecutive year. We do acknowledge Williams had Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball, but the skills are there.

D’Andre Swift is a stellar “B” back to Williams but it’s JW’s versatile abilities in a bigger package that provide volume no matter the gamescript. Need those gritty yards to kill clock with a lead? They like him. Need a receiver in space for the hurry-up? He isn’t ousted by Swift and can hold his own. Faith in Detroit’s offense may be low but PPR volume can be had for relatively cheap by drafting Williams.

UPDATE: D'Andre Swift (core) has been limited at practice and he sat out the entire preseason, fueling speculation that his Week 1 status is up in the air. Jermar Jefferson could have some usage in his absence, but Jamaal Williams figures to see in a nice uptick in touches if Swift were to miss time. The Lions have been adamant about utilizing a two-RB backfield all offseason and through training camp, so Williams is probably still being undervalued at his ADP (especially in PPR leagues).
