ANALYSIS: Justin Lawrence was the Rockies closer to begin the season, but after a few rough outings and a stint on the paternity list, Jalen Beeks was given a chance to close out games and has seemingly run away with the job. Earlier this season that wouldn't sound like much of an opportunity to pick up saves with the Rockies sporting an 8-28 record through May 8. Since May 9, however, the Rockies have won seven in a row, with Beeks getting multiple chances to earn saves along the way.

On May 3, Justin Lawrence was placed on the paternity list, and that very same day Jalen Beeks earned a save in a 3-2 victory over the Pirates. Since then, Beeks has recorded three more saves for a total of four on the season, while Justin Lawrence has been relegated to a setup role. For the season, Beeks is posting a good 2.21 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP, but an uninspiring 3.6% K-BB%. The southpaw has 14 strikeouts in 20 1/3 IP, not what you see from a typical closer these days, but whatever he's doing is working, and with the Rockies rolling there doesn't appear to be a need to switch back to Lawrence.
Beeks did walk three batters in one inning of work on Monday, but avoided any damage on his way to earning the save. Keep an eye on his performance, as a couple blowups might cause a switch back to Lawrence, or even a closer-by-committee approach. For now, Beeks is King of the [Rockies] Mountain and can be had in over 85% of Yahoo leagues for managers in need of saves. If he can continue to walk the tightrope, the 30-year-old could help your other ratios as well.
