Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Arizona Diamondbacks Acquiring Jace Peterson
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder Jace Peterson in a trade with the Oakland Athletics on Monday, per a tweet from the National League West club’s official Twitter account:
The veteran infielder joined the A’s as a free agent over the offseason. He went on to appear in 93 games for the club, batting .221 with a .313 on-base percentage, six home runs, and 11 stolen bases in 324 plate appearances in his first season in Oakland.
Peterson mostly split his time between playing third base and second base. He has considerable experience in his career playing first base, and in left field and right field as well.
Considering Arizona’s depth across the diamond, particularly in the outfield and at second base -- where Ketel Marte is entrenched as the starter -- it’s possible Peterson could fill in as a utility option at first for the Diamondbacks.
Though given his versatility, he’d potentially be the first player off the bench in the event of an injury. Of course, this is all entirely speculative.
With his versatility, ability to chip in with home runs and stolen bases, as well as a solid walk rate -- it’s at 11.1% so far this season and 11.2% for his career -- Peterson should be a useful fantasy option for fantasy managers in leagues with 14 or more teams. His fantasy outlook could improve considerably if he’s needed to step into a regular role in Arizona.
