ANALYSIS: I wrote a sleeper post for Crowell about a week ago (found here) and some of the predictions seem to be coming true. Tate’s durability was and always will be in question, and his most recent knee injury will keep him sidelined for the next couple of weeks at least. Terrance West played well filling in on Sunday, but it was Crowell who jumped into the game and ran five times for 32 yards and two scores. He now finds his way onto our waiver wire sleepers list.
After the game, the Browns coach admitted that Crowell was not part of the Week 1 game plan. As Week 2 approaches and the Browns prepare to play without Ben Tate, you can be sure Crowell will be getting plenty of touches in this backfield, and likely dominating the red zone. Over the course of the season, if Tate cannot get healthy, I see this backfield developing into a two-headed monster with Crowell controlling the goal-line carries and eventually landing the full-time job. He is a decent FLEX option for now, and a possible RB2 going forward depending on the backfield split the coaches intend to use with Tate out. If one thing is certain, it's that Crowell has considerable upside in this backfield, and is at least worth stashing in all leagues.
