The Seattle Seahawks entered the 2023 NFL Draft with more draft capital than most teams. Many expected them to use a first-round pick on a quarterback. However, that didn’t happen.
Instead, the team has spent their draft picks improving the roster around Geno Smith. They used the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
However, Pete Carroll and the Seahawks turned the fantasy football world upside down on Friday night. They used the 52nd overall pick in the draft on UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet.

What Did Zach Charbonnet Accomplish At UCLA?
Charbonnet started his college career at Michigan. He had 149 rushing attempts for 726 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2019. The freshman led the team in all three categories. However, Charbonnet transferred to UCLA after two years with Michigan.
The star running back was near unstoppable in 2021, totaling 203 rushing attempts for 1,137 yards and 13 touchdowns. Yet, Charbonnet was even better last year. He had 195 rushing attempts for 1,359 yards and 14 touchdowns. The 1,359 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns were career highs.
Is Zach Charbonnet A Good Fit For The Seahawks?
Fantasy football-wise, this move is absolutely awful. The Seahawks used a second-round pick on Kenneth Walker III in 2022. He had an outstanding rookie season, totaling 228 rushing attempts for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns. Walker also caught 27 of his 35 targets for 165 yards last year.
More importantly, the former Michigan State star finished second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year award race behind Garrett Wilson. Yet, the Seahawks felt the need to spend a top 60 pick on a running back, making fantasy players furious.
Seattle drafting Charbonnet made fantasy players upset. However, the move makes sense for the team on the field. Seattle lost Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer in free agency this offseason. Furthermore, DeeJay Dallas is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
The best way the Seahawks can help Smith is by giving him a dominant running game. Walker should remain the starter, but Charbonnet will have a role. This 1-2 punch at running back will help Smith and Seahawks on the field. Unfortunately, it is a nightmare situation for fantasy players.
