When the New York Giants lost franchise running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, Buffalo Bills castoff Devin Singletary was brought in to be the team’s top tailback. An unheralded fifth-round pick out of Purdue has definitely changed the fantasy football fortunes of Singletary, though.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. has been a spark plug for the Giants moribund offense this season, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and accounting for 100-plus combined yards in three of his last four games. Tracy is coming off galloping for a career-high 145 rushing yards and a touchdown against the staunch Pittsburgh Steelers defense.
Tracy Jr. was concussed at the end of the Monday night game versus the Steelers, however. Will he be able to suit up Sunday in a must-win game versus the Washington Commanders? Here is the latest:

Is Tyrone Tracy Jr. Hurt or Healthy?
According to New York head coach Brian Daboll, Tracy has entered the early stages of concussion protocol. He did not practice on Wednesday and will not be allowed to until he is deemed clear of his concussion.
RB Tyrone Tracy is in the “early stages” of the concussion protocol, per Brian Daboll. Will do some work on the side with trainers at Wednesday’s practice. #Giants #Commanders

This could take a day or two, or it could take a week or two. Tracy will be evaluated throughout the week, so at the moment he is listed as questionable for New York’s next game. Fantasy managers will be forced to monitor this situation as the week goes on, but we might not know until Sunday morning whether or not Tracy will play.
In this day and age, a player who suffers a concussion usually miss his next game. It has to be a mild concussion and a quick recovery for the player to not miss a week. I would bet on Tracy needing an extra week before he is ready to roll, especially since the Giants probably do not want to rush back the one player who has provided offense over the past month.
Is Tyrone Tracy Jr. Starting Week 9?
I would say there is a 25-percent chance that Tracy is cleared and starts this Sunday. If he is on the field, he will get more time and touches than Singletary. Tracy has clearly outplayed the veteran during the first half of the season and is on the upswing. He has another gear in the open field that Singletary does not have, and he also has similar pass-catching skills out of the backfield.
If Tracy does not play and start in Week 9, by all means do not drop him. He might be the Giants’ top tailback for the remainder of the season and beyond. Tracy can break tackles and has breakaway speed that no other back on the roster has. Pairing Tracy and rookie receiver Malik Nabers together as the cornerstones of the offense for the next several seasons should be the Giants plan.
If you are a fantasy manager who rosters Tracy, keep him on the team. He is probably going to be helping you in a huge way at the end of this season when fantasy contests are crucial, and he could be a multi-year monster for you squad in dynasty leagues.
