Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has battled injuries over the past two years, missing the last five games of each season. That said, rostering his backup quarterback could prove to be a smart strategy in superflex and two-QB leagues.
Tyler Huntley has started in most games Jackson has missed but has delivered mixed results with up-and-down performances. Baltimore added 37-year-old signal-caller Josh Johnson to the mix this offseason, so there could be legitimate competition for the QB2 job.
Is Huntley or Johnson the Ravens' QB2 in 2023? Let's dive in.

Is Huntley or Johnson the Ravens' QB2?
Huntley remains the favorite to win the backup job behind Lamar Jackson this summer, but he has left the door open for Johnson. Huntley struggled with consistency and turned the ball over too often during organized team activities and last week's mandatory minicamp. The Ravens wanted to upgrade at backup QB this offseason, and notably, Huntley is on the books for $2.6 million in 2023.
If Baltimore isn't sold on Huntley as a clear upgrade over Johnson, the salary cap savings they could get from moving on from him could be attractive. The 25-year-old has plenty on the line at training camp next month. In 13 games (eight starts) over the last two years, he's completed 65.7% of his passes for 1,739 yards, five TDs, and seven interceptions.
For now, Huntley should be viewed as the backup, but it's seemingly not a guarantee.
Should You Roster Huntley In Superflex Leagues?
Given Jackson's recent track record of injuries, drafting Huntley in deep two-QB or superflex leagues is smart. Leagues of at least 12 members don't allow every fantasy manager to have three starting QBs on the roster, so Huntley should be one of the top "non-starters" off the board.
Huntley provided a few fantasy boom weeks in 2021 but was largely unproductive in 2022. That said, if he's called into action at any point in the 2023 season, he'll have some upside. He has rushing upside and Baltimore has its best set of pass-catchers in at least half a decade, so he'll immediately be on the fantasy football radar.
If Johnson does win the QB2 job over Huntley, he should be in consideration too, but he'll have a little less upside.
