For eight seasons, Cincinnati was Tyler Boyd’s home. He amassed 6,000 receiving yards on 513 receptions and scored 31 touchdowns during his time with the Bengals.
Boyd was a trusted option for quarterback Joe Burrow and was great as the team’s primary slot receiver. Unfortunately, the club opted not to re-sign him this offseason.
After his deal with the Bengals expired, is Boyd still a free agent? Where will he sign? Let’s take a look and explore some options.

Is Tyler Boyd a Free Agent?
Boyd has not yet signed with a new team and remains a free agent. Per Fantasy Points Data Suite, 85.4% of Boyd’s routes in 2023 were run from the slot. This does pigeonhole him into a very specific role. He can play a bit at X and flanker. However, these are not his strengths and any team who signs him will likely utilize him almost exclusively from the slot. Even still, he is a solid player and would be a welcome addition to any team’s receiving room.

With teams currently focused on Thursday’s draft, Boyd will likely find a new home soon after its completion.
Which Teams Would be the Best Fit for Tyler Boyd?
Kansas City Chiefs
The defending champs' receiver room is once again a potential liability with the ongoing legal troubles of Rashee Rice. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that he is likely to be suspended multiple games by the league. Fantasy Points Data Suite notes that Rice ran about half his routes last year from the slot. Boyd could slide into this role for however long Rice is sidelined.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have an opening at receiver after shipping Diontae Johnson off to Carolina. Third-year receiver George Pickens profiles more as an outside threat. This would leave Boyd to work underneath and out of the slot. There had been steam that Boyd was close to signing with Pittsburgh, but this has died down in recent weeks. Perhaps talks will ramp up again once the NFL Draft concludes.
New England Patriots
With the Patriots expected to select a quarterback at third overall in Thursday’s draft, the club still has work to do with its receiving room. New England has expressed confidence in its current options at the position. Still, the team might look to add Boyd as a security blanket for its potential rookie signal-caller.
