Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier was the 151st overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Allgeier had a productive college career, totaling 452 rushing attempts for 2,899 yards and 36 touchdowns in four years at BYU.
More importantly, he had a solid rookie season. The former BYU star had 210 rushing attempts for 1,035 yards and three touchdowns. Allgeier added 16 receptions on 17 targets for 139 receiving yards and a touchdown in the passing game.
Unfortunately, the former BYU star’s fantasy value got crushed when the Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson. However, could Allgeier still have a role in Atlanta’s offense?

What Did Tyler Allgeier Accomplish In Week 1?
Last year, the former BYU star was the RB27, averaging 9.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He split time with Cordarrelle Patterson as the team’s starting running back.
However, Allgeier was outstanding in Week 1. He had 15 rushing attempts for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The second-year running back averaged five yards per rushing attempt against the Carolina Panthers.
The former BYU scored 22.9 fantasy points in the win over the Panthers, making him the RB4 for the week before the Monday Night Football game. However, should fantasy players add Allgeier off the waiver wire?
Is Tyler Allgeier A Good Fantasy Football Pickup for Week 2?
Fantasy players with Robinson on their team should make the second-year running back their top waiver-wire priority. The former BYU star is a league-winning handcuff if the rookie running back misses time with an injury.
Meanwhile, Allgeier could have a consistent role on offense this season. The second-year running back had half as many targets as Robinson. Yet, he had five more rushing attempts than the rookie running back. More importantly, Allgeier scored both his touchdowns from inside the five-yard line against the Panthers.
If the former BYU star isn’t available, fantasy players should target Kenneth Gainwell and Joshua Kelley on the wavier wire.
Gainwell is the clear-cut lead running back for the Philadelphia Eagles after having 87.5% of the rushing attempts from the backfield in Week 1. Meanwhile, Kelley had a near 50-50 split with Austin Ekeler last week. Furthermore, the superstar running back has an ankle injury and could miss the team’s Week 2 matchup.
