Tyjae Spears Injury Update For Fantasy Football
Spears had plenty of question marks during the pre-draft process about his knee injuries, but he has been a full participant in rookie mini-camp and said "I was out there. I did everything. So, I feel perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with me. I'm healthy."
The Tulane product has no ACL in one of his knees and is reportedly dealing with arthritis, but since the Titans were confident enough in his medical report to spend a day-two pick on him, we can assume he'll at least be fine in the short-term. he could see a shortened career due to his knee troubles, but his immediate production should not be a concern. After all, the shelf life of running backs is already short.
Tyjae Spears 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
The 21-year-old is expected to contribute to the Titans' offense early in his career. The 29-year-old Derrick Henry may need a change of pace back to ease some of his workload at this point in his career, so Spears could carve out a role as a third-down back and breather back sharing the backfield with the former 2,000-yard rusher.
With limited pass-catching options in Tennessee, there is room for a pass-catching back to command volume in 2023. If nothing else, he'll be the clear backup to Henry and should be rostered as a handcuff. Given the team's decision to draft Spears, it seems they aren't impressed with 2022 fourth-round pick Hassan Haskins.
