Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed four games in the regular season and the team's Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills in concussion protocol. The way the team handled his head injury has been controversial and a big topic of discussion this season, and his future in the NFL is seemingly uncertain.
Tagovailoa had a breakout season with the addition of Tyreek Hill and the ascension of second-year wideout Jaylen Waddle, but until there is clarity surrounding his situation, it's tough to know how to evaluate him moving forward. Of course, his personal health and well-being are more important than football and fantasy football, but naturally, his status will affect fantasy moving forward.
Is Tagovailoa in or out of concussion protocol? What is his 2023 fantasy outlook if he's all clear and good to go? Let's explore these questions.

Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Tagovailoa (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol and will not take part in this week's Pro Bowl. Tagovailoa was named the first alternate at QB for the Pro Bowl, but the team is reportedly being extra cautious with the third-year signal-caller.
He initially entered the protocol on Dec. 26 for the second time this year after suffering a concussion on Christmas Day. However, the team said there haven't been any setbacks, so that could be a promising sign. Injuries have been an issue early in his career, but he'll be a hot name in fantasy circles if he can return to health.
Tua Tagovailoa 2023 Fantasy Outlook
In 13 games, Tagovailoa posted 3,548 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. In games in which he started and finished, the Dolphins went 8-4 and were in the thick of the AFC playoff race. Miami clinched a playoff berth with a Week 18 win over the New York Jets, but finished the year with a 9-8 record and took a first-round exit at the hands of the Buffalo Bills.
Ultimately, Tagovailoa looked like a bonafide franchise quarterback with an improved offensive line and pass-catching group. If he is ready to go in 2023, he'll likely be discounted in preseason drafts due to further injury concerns. He finished as the QB10 in fantasy points per game (18.4), so if he falls into the mid-QB2 range, he'll be a steal at ADP for 2023.
Mike Gesicki, Raheem Mostert, and Trent Sherfield are the most notable free agents on offense for Miami this offseason, so the team should be able to replicate its offensive success in the second year of Mike McDaniel's tenure.
