Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride (concussion) has been sorely missed by both the Cardinals offense and fantasy managers alike. McBride broke out last season and looked to be on track for another great year before he took a hard helmet-to-helmet hit in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions. McBride didn't return to the game and hasn't played since.
Trey was the TE7 in full-PPR scoring last season and was one of the top tight ends drafted in 2024 fantasy leagues. McBride scored 8.0 and 18.70 PPR fantasy points in his first two games, which would have put him on pace for a top-3 finish, ignoring Isaiah Likely's likely outlier game.
Is Trey McBride now hurt or healthy? Will he play in Week 5? Let's dive in.

Trey McBride Injury Update for Fantasy Football
McBride is now practicing again, and all signs point to him clearing the concussion protocol before the Cardinals play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. McBride seems to be on the typical timeline for concussed players, who tend to miss one game, and then return the next.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon added some additional good news, saying that Trey "looks good." While Gannon doesn't know the specifics of where he's at in the protocol (Gannon's not a doctor, so that's reasonable), the Cardinals likely did the right thing by holding the second-year TE out for a game.
He is expected to play in Week 5. Fantasy managers will want to check for updates before the game to ensure there aren't any setbacks, but they should be mostly confident he will take the field.
Trey McBride Fantasy Football Outlook
McBride is a locked-in starter. There's just no reason to sit someone who has a shot at being the No. 1 tight end in fantasy this year. He has chemistry with QB Kyler Murray and the presence of rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. isn't likely to take away significant targets. Harrison and McBride look like the only viable options in the Cardinals' passing game.
Elite tight ends elevate offenses. Just ask Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, who enjoyed huge boosts to their offenses when Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce were playing at elite levels. Expect No. 85 to get a healthy dose of targets throughout the rest of the season and be one of the few tight ends who can deliver week-winning upside.
Matchups, opponents, questionable tags, and everything else can be ignored, put McBride in your starting lineups if you're lucky enough to have this diamond in the rough in the massive wasteland that is the 2024 tight-end landscape.
