Former Seattle Seahawks running back Travis Homer inked a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears in the first week of free agency, so he could be a player to watch for 2023 fantasy football.
The team lost David Montgomery to the Detroit Lions, but also picked up D'Onta Foreman and has Khalil Herbert on the roster. That said, it'll be an interesting backfield to dissect at this point in the offseason.
Is Homer the Bears' RB1 for 2023? Let's dive in.

Travis Homer Career Review
In four seasons since being selected in the sixth round by the Seahawks, Homer has handled 83 rushes for 453 yards and one touchdown. Through the air, he's totaled 52 receptions for 464 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Ultimately, he's served as the team's RB3 for most of his career -- backing up the likes of Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, DeeJay Dallas, and Ken Walker.
However, he has been efficient when called upon and possesses sub-4.5 speed. Now, we'll see if his skill set can translate to more touches and opportunities with his new team.
Is Travis Homer The Bears' RB1 In 2023?
With Herbert and Foreman on the roster, there's a very slim chance Homer seizes an outright starting role for Chicago. That said, he could earn a rotational back position, assuming Chicago doesn't add more backs in the 2023 NFL Draft. Homer's two-year deal is worth just a max of $4.5 million in total, so that doesn't scream "starting running back."
Ultimately, he likely won't be rosterable in traditional fantasy leagues. In ultra-deep leagues with tons of roster spots, he could have value as a second or third-string handcuff running back on what is expected to be a much improved Bears' offense in 2023.
Herbert will likely be the starter in 2023, but for now, it's up to Foreman and Homer to battle it out for the RB2 spot.
