The Tour Championship is entering its 16^th season as the final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. It has been played in various formats throughout its history and continues this year for the fourth year in its current staggered format where the leader in FedEx Cup points will start the event at 10-under.

Tom Kim is making his first career start at the Tour Championship. He has never played but should be poised to do well here as he ranks 10^th in strokes gained on approach-to-green, 13^th in greens in regulation percentage and 19^th on approach shots over 200 yards on tour this year.

How Is Tom Kim’s Recent Form?

Tom Kim has put together an outstanding 2023 season, highlighted by his exceptional play over the past few weeks. In his last four appearances, he has one top-five finish and three top-10 finishes. He finished T24 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago, T10 at the BMW Championship, and tied for second at The Open Championship.

Kim has been outstanding putting and on approach recently. He has gained strokes putting and on approach in all his last five appearances including at The Open Championship where he gained over two strokes on the field with his putter.

Tom Kim’s Outlook For Tour Championship

Coming into this week, Kim's odds are currently at 125/1 at most sportsbooks. This week's field features the top 30 in FedEx Cup standings, and East Lake will present a stern test for golfers where they must be accurate off the tee and on approach.

Kim must continue his exceptional approach play and accuracy off the tee if he intends to have a chance to win the FedEx Cup. It’s worth noting that at last year’s Tour Championship over 32% of approach shots were taken from 150-200 yards and this year Kim ranks in the 56^th percentile in greens in regulation and 76^th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. However, Kim ranks in the 82^nd percentile in greens in regulation and the 74th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from over 150 yards in the rough.
