Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson (calf) was traded from the Denver Broncos to his current team after the 2023 season and was in line to be the starting quarterback before suffering a calf injury and being held out of the first game. Since then, in each consecutive game, Justin Fields has been named the starter.
Wilson has been declared inactive for those four straight games, serving as the emergency third quarterback as he continues to rehab his calf injury. It's an unfortunate start to the season for Wilson, who was expected to lead the talented black and gold brigade.
Is Russell Wilson healthy now or is he still hurt? Will he start or at least play in Week 5? Let's break it down.

Russell Wilson Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Wilson logged a limited practice on Wednesday. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has stated that he wants to get Wilson more involved in practices, ramping up his activity as time goes on. He's expected to do more than previously, and they'll evaluate his injury situation continually.
#Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says Russell Wilson will have "another strong work day" and his "participation is going to pick up some." More work this week than last week and they'll see how he does. Still Justin Fields' job for now, it seems.

Wilson was seen doing ball security drills in the portion of practice open to the media. It's not much, but the fact that he's jogging is a good sign of his eventual availability.

The timeline for his return is mostly unclear at this point. What's also unclear is if the Steelers are continuing to roll with Fields as long as the team keeps performing well, either giving Wilson ample time to recover fully or keeping him sidelined until they feel Fields isn't a good option to keep them winning. They lost last week.

It's interesting to note this drill. It's a simple slow-paced rollout with a throw, and Wilson doesn't roll out. Probably not a good sign, and it lends credence to the idea that his injury is significant.
