Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze enjoyed his first good game as a Bear, logging six catches on 11 targets for 112 yards and a touchdown last game. After just three receptions over his first two games, Odunze more than doubled his previous production in Week 3.
Odunze outproduced fellow Bears WR DJ Moore on a day that QB Caleb Williams finally hit some kind of rhythm. Williams still threw two interceptions, so the offense left production on the field, but it was a nice day for Odunze regardless.
Odunze managers are happy about that, but won't be happy to hear that he's landed on the injury report. Is Rome Odunze currently hurt or healthy? Will he play in Week 4? Let's dive into an update and Odunze's outlook for the season.
Odunze is dealing with a hip issue. He practiced in a limited fashion on Thursday. There's no indication that it's a serious issue, and while it's not completely clear, there's been no signals that he could miss time.
Rome Odunze added to the injury report with a Hip injury.
Hopefully it’s not hip flexor/soft tissue which would come with high reinjury risk in-game.
Fantasy managers will need to stay on the lookout for more updates on Odunze's situation. A full or at least limited practice on Friday would be a good sign for Odunze's availability for Week 4.
Rome Odunze Fantasy Football Outlook
Odunze managers may not be very happy when WR Keenan Allen returns. Odunze has benefited from playing over 90% of snaps while Allen has been out with injury, but when Allen returns, Odunze is likely the odd man out after Allen and lead WR DJ Moore when the Bears offense is in formations with just two receivers.
Odunze played 77% of the snaps in Week 1, and often-maligned offensive coordinator Shane Waldron loves two WR sets regardless of how high Odunze was drafted.
Keeping tight ends Gerald Everett and Cole Kmet on the field at the same time as a priority over the ninth overall pick in the NFL Draft is a curious decision, but it doesn't help Odunze managers at all.
Odunze's big game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3 should be taken with a grain of salt. Allen was not playing, and the Colts have one of the worst overall defenses in the NFL. The Bears offense was anemic against more competent defenses in Weeks 1-2, and that's likely to be the norm.
Odunze won't get the targets he deserves as the No. 9 overall pick, and if Williams doesn't improve his play greatly, the offense will continue to be terrible. It may be tough for Odunze to be fantasy-relevant in 2024.
