Former Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods signed with the Houston Texans Friday after Tennessee released him earlier this offseason.
Woods has posted two 1,000-yard seasons in his career but will turn 31 years old before the start of the 2023 season. The assumption was he'd try to sign with a contender, but he ultimately agreed to a deal with the Texans, who hold the No. 2 overall pick in April's 2023 NFL Draft.
How did Woods perform in 2022 and is he a good fit with the Texans for fantasy football? Let's dive in.

Robert Woods 2022 Season Review
In 17 games in his first and only season with the Titans, Woods caught 53 of his 91 targets for 527 yards and two touchdowns. In the three seasons prior in which he played at least 15 games, he totaled no less than 936 yards. Clearly, it was a down year, but there were plenty of causes for the regression.
For one, he played in a bottom-five passing offense in the NFL. Secondly, he was coming off of a torn ACL. There are plenty of cases where players don't return to true form until they are another full year removed from ACL surgery, especially at age 30.
There's no guarantee he'll ever get back to his 1,000-yard form since he's past the wide receiver age apex, but he could carve out a nice role in Houston as a possession receiver and veteran presence.
Robert Woods 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Woods will likely be catching passes from a rookie quarterback in Houston, which has normally not been a great factor for high upside and fantasy success. If Brandin Cooks is traded, Woods should operate as a top-three option for whoever the young quarterback is, but that might not be enough for him to be on the fantasy radar in traditional leagues.
John Metchie is expected to make his NFL debut after sitting out his rookie season after a leukemia diagnosis and the team likes Nico Collins as a future stud receiver. Houston also holds a ton of draft capital, so there's a real chance they select a wide receiver during the first two days of the draft.
Ultimately, it's a little early to project Woods since we don't know what the roster will look like yet, but he's likely going to be more of a short-yardage guy who serves as a veteran presence and mentor to the young Houston roster. In deep leagues, he could be worth rostering, but expect a similar stat line from his 2022 campaign in 2023.
