Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny was a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He had an excellent career at San Diego State, totaling over 3,650 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns.
However, his NFL career has been far from ideal. Penny has missed 40 games over his five-year career. That means the veteran running back has played in only 52.2% of the possible games during his time in the NFL. He has repeatedly missed time because of injuries.
Last year Penny had 346 rushing yards and two touchdowns in five games played. Unfortunately, he suffered a tibia fracture injury in Week 5 and missed the rest of the year.

Is Rashaad Penny A Free Agent In 2023?
Fantasy players will remember that Penny had that historic close to the 2021 season. Over the final five games that year, the veteran running back averaged 18.4 rushing attempts for 134.2 yards and 1.2 touchdowns per game. He then signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks that offseason.
However, the team used a second-round pick on Kenneth Walker last year. The former Michigan State running back became a star in his rookie season. Unfortunately for Penny, he will hit the free agent market this offseason coming off an injury. Furthermore, he likely won’t be back in Seattle next year.
While the veteran running back has struggled with injuries, Penny is a capable player. He likely won’t last an entire season as a lead guy, but the veteran can fill a change-of-pace role for a team in 2023.
Which Team Will Sign Rashaad Penny This Offseason?
Many believe Penny will sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. The Buccaneers recently hired Dave Canales as their new offensive coordinator. Canales had spent the past several years in Seattle as the team’s passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
However, the fit doesn’t make sense with Leonard Fournette and Rachaad White on the roster. Unless Tampa Bay releases or trades Fournette this offseason, Penny would be the No. 3 running back on the depth chart.
A more appealing ideal landing spot for the veteran running back is the Minnesota Vikings. Alexander Mattison is a free agent this offseason. After spending years as Dalvin Cook’s backup, Mattison will likely move on for a larger role with a new team. Penny would be a solid replacement for Mattison as he has starting experience for when Cook misses time.
