In a large majority of cases, injury designations are black and white. Either you're injured or you're not. This is not one of those cases.
It is a fact that Quentin Johnston departed Sunday night's game with a rib injury, went into the blue medical tent, and then did not return to the game. Following their loss, Johnston told reporters in the locker room that he felt well enough to re-enter the game.
Head coach Brandon Staley sang a different tune on Monday when reporters pressed him about Johnston. Is Johnston injured or was his lack of snaps performance-related? That's the million-dollar question.

Quentin Johnston Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Staley confirmed earlier this week that Johnston was cleared by the medical staff to return to the game, but he was not 100 percent. It was Staley's decision to keep him on the sidelines. The Chargers were already without Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer. Jalen Guyton and Keenan Allen were both playing with injuries.
It's not an extreme vote of confidence that journeyman wideout Alex Erickson, who was called up from the practice squad, was a better option than a cleared-to-return Johnston, whether he was 100 percent or not. X-rays for the first-round pick came back negative and Staley expects Johnston to practice this week.
Quentin Johnston Fantasy Football Outlook
Johnston's debut year has been as disastrous as any first-round wide receiver in recent history. The 21st-overall pick has 21 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown through 11 games. He does not need to be rostered in standard-sized fantasy football leagues and even dynasty managers are concerned about his play.
Palmer is eligible to return to action when the Chargers face off against the Patriots in Week 13, although it's unclear if that will be the case. Johnston may be in line for another game with over 80% of the snaps. Respectable production, however, won't come with it.
