Patrick Mahomes Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Mahomes (ankle) continues to work his way back from a high-ankle sprain suffered during the postseason. Although it didn't stop the Chiefs from securing another championship, fantasy managers are still concerned about Mahomes' health heading into the 2023-24 campaign.
However, head coach Andy Reid provided a positive update while speaking to NFL Network's Steve Wyche at the Annual League Meeting. "He jumped right back into workouts and working the ankle, rehabbing the ankle," Reid said. "He's lifting and running the parts that he could run, and he didn't miss a beat on that."
Needless to say, Mahomes is expected to be fine and isn't being severely impacted by the injury in offseason preparation. That said, there's no reason he should miss training camp or any time early on in the 2023 campaign.
Patrick Mahomes 2023 Fantasy Outlook
After just five seasons as a starter, Mahomes has racked up two MVPs, two Super Bowl titles, three All-Pro selections, and five Pro Bowls.
However, his 2022 season was arguably his most impressive. Even with Tyreek Hill out the door, Mahomes led the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns -- and led Kansas City to the No. 1 seed in the AFC once again.
For fantasy football, he's a lock to finish as a top-five quarterback, and it'd be shocking if he didn't finish in the top three. Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts are his competition to be the No. 1 player in all of fantasy football, but you can't go wrong drafting Mahomes as the first quarterback off the board. Expect another 5,000-yard 35-plus touchdown season from the best player in football.
