Mike Williams Injury Updates for Fantasy Football
Mike Williams Injury News
During Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Denver Broncos, Williams sustained a back injury in the second quarter. He appeared to be in tremendous pain and required assistance to get off the field. Later, he was carted to the locker room and did not return to the game.
These were not encouraging potential ramifications for fantasy managers who are counting on him to play and perform in the Wild Card round. Many are questioning why he was even playing Week 18 in a meaningless game against Denver.
Initial tests performed post-game came back negative, and the expectation was he would be available for Saturday's Wild Card game versus Jacksonville. The Chargers look like they may have dodged a bullet as it appears the injury-prone receiver will suit up for Saturday night's playoff tilt in Florida.
Is Mike Williams Injured or Playing in the Wild Card Round?
Head coach Brandon Staley said on Monday that an MRI revealed a back contusion in his star receiver, but he expects him to practice at some point before this weekend's playoff game. That's great news for fantasy owners, but there is still anxiety over whether or not he will play in the actual game.
The 28-year-old caught four of five targets for 32 yards in Week 18 before being forced to exit with a back injury. When healthy this season, he has been productive from a fantasy perspective, catching 63 balls for 895 yards and four touchdowns. The problem is, he has missed significant time and hasn't been able to remain on the field.
The Chargers will need all of their weapons on Saturday if they want to win a road game in Jacksonville against a red-hot Jaguars team that has won its last five games. Fantasy managers will need Williams healthy and active this weekend if they want to increase the chances of their own victory parties.
