Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki has had a solid NFL career. The tight end was a second-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Over the first four years of his career, Gesicki averaged 49.8 receptions on 79.5 targets for 563.7 receiving yards per season. After having a career year in 2021, Miami placed the franchise tag on the tight end last offseason.
However, the team rarely took advantage of Gesicki’s talents this year. The tight end had only 32 receptions on 52 targets for 362 receiving yards in 2022, his lowest totals since his rookie season. After playing last year on the franchise tag, the former second-round pick will hit the open market in March.

Is Mike Gesicki A Free Agent In 2023?
When the Dolphins used the franchise tag on Gesicki last offseason, many thought it to serve as a buffer to get a long-term deal done. However, the two sides are expected to go their separate ways this offseason.
With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle having massive roles on offense, Miami has no reason to pay Gesicki the kind of money that he will get on the open market.
The Dolphins could place the franchise tag on the tight end again this offseason and try to trade him for draft picks. However, that seems likely.
Which Team Will Sign Mike Gesicki This Offseason?
There will be plenty of free agent tight ends this offseason. However, Gesicki will be the top one on the market. His ability to create mismatches, especially in the red zone, will be a welcomed addition to any team. Despite having only 32 receptions last year, Gesicki had five receiving touchdowns, the third-most on the team.
Several teams will have interest in the tight end this offseason. The Las Vegas Raiders and Washington Commanders could potentially be in the market if they move on from their current starting tight end.
The top fantasy football landing spots for Gesicki are the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers. Of the three, the Lions would be the best landing spot.
Detroit traded away T.J. Hockenson at last year’s trade deadline, leaving them with Brock Wright, Shane Zylstra, and James Mitchell at the tight end position. Pairing Gesicki with a wide receiver unit headlined by Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams would give Jared Goff an outstanding trio of pass catchers.
