Veteran wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. has bounced around the NFL during his 11-year career. The former University of California star was a fifth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft.
The veteran wide receiver had a quiet rookie season in 2012, totaling 18 receptions on 32 targets for 201 receiving yards and a touchdown. However, he had a breakout season in 2013. That year Jones had 51 receptions on 80 targets for 721 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His 10 receiving touchdowns were the 10th-most in the NFL.
Unfortunately, he missed the 2014 season with an ankle injury. After four years with the Bengals, Jones signed a five-year deal with the Detroit Lions in 2016. During his time in Detroit, the veteran had over 4,200 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns. Then, Jones signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2021 offseason.

What Did Marvin Jones Jr. Accomplish In 2022?
Jones had a significant role in 2021, totaling 73 receptions on 120 targets for 832 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The veteran led the Jaguars in every receiving category. However, things changed last year.
Jacksonville added Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram in free agency last offseason. The new additions significantly impacted Jones’ role on the team. The veteran wide receiver had 46 receptions on 81 targets for 529 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2022.
However, the veteran wide receiver had an impact when it mattered. Jones caught a critical touchdown in the Jaguars' comeback victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in the playoffs.
While he was a solid player for Jacksonville, the Jaguars had no reason to re-sign the veteran wide receiver. Kirk, Jones, and Engram will all return in 2023. More importantly, the team added Calvin Ridley to their receiving core.
Is Marvin Jones Jr. A Good Fit With The Lions?
After two years in Jacksonville, the veteran wide receiver signed a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with the Lions.
The addition of Jones is significant for Detroit. DJ Chark signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency, creating a need at wide receiver. However, fantasy players shouldn’t expect much from the veteran in 2023.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is the clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver, while Jameson Williams should have a meaningful role next season. Therefore, Jones has no fantasy value outside of deeper dynasty leagues.
