Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave caught just 47 passes for 633 yards and two touchdowns in four seasons at Oregon State University. However, that didn't stop him from being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The 22-year-old posted elite speed and agility grades at the 2023 NFL Combine. His Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.77 ranked in the top 30 TEs of all time (out of 1091 TE from 1987 to 2023). That said, the Packers are simply betting on his upside.
Will Musgrave begin the season as the starting tight end for Green Bay? What's his 2023 fantasy outlook? Let's dive in.

Is Musgrave the Starting Tight End for Green Bay?
Musgrave has been getting praise from his coaching staff early in camp. Head coach Matt LaFleur said that the rookie tight end has a lot of potential and that Musgrave is the fastest big guy that he has ever seen. The Packers selected Musgrave in the second round of this year's draft, so the expectation is that he's going to be the primary catching tight end to begin the season.
He has the size and speed to do damage at the pro level, so he's a very intriguing player to target in preseason drafts.
Luke Musgrave 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
While Musgrave is a highly impressive athlete, he has a raw skill set that will likely take time to develop. It's not often that rookie tight ends produce big fantasy numbers, so expectations should be limited in his rookie campaign.
On top of that, he'll have an unproven quarterback in Jordan Love. Also, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed might be ahead of him in the target pecking order.
For deep leagues, Musgrave is a fine backup tight end stash and he has plenty of dynasty league intrigue. However, banking on him being a starter in fantasy lineups isn't a good idea for 12-team redraft formats.
