Former Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave is a 6'6" pass catcher who runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and can stretch the middle of the field. The Green Bay Packers picked him in the second round at No. 42, giving Jordan Love big body to throw to over the middle of the field.
The Packers followed the Musgrave pick-by taking another tight end, Tucker Kraft, in the third round.
Will the Packers be able to utilize two tight ends? Is Luke Musgrave a good fit with the Packers? What is his fantasy football outlook in 2023? Let's dive in.

What Did Luke Musgrave Accomplish At Oregon State?
Musgrave stayed at Oregon State for four years and became a full-time starter in his third year. He caught a passes for 304 yards and one touchdown. He also made contributions on special teams. Against Utah, he picked up a blocked punt and returned it 37 yards for the go-ahead touchdown.
He was on a roll during the second half of the 2021 season. He caught multiple passes in four of the final five games, including ten passes for 129 yards in the final two games. There were big expectations for him going into his senior year.
He started off strong, catching six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown in Oregon State's first game of 2021. The next week against Fresno State, he had caught five passes for 80 yards when tragedy struck. He went down with a knee injury. It was disappointing that we didn't get to see him play his senior season, but NFL teams had seen enough, and after MCL surgery, he's still one of the fastest tight ends in his class.
Is Luke Musgrave A Good Fit For The Packers?
The Packers, under coach Matt LaFleur, did not use two tight end sets very often in 2021, the last year on record in Sharp Football Analytics' dataset, but they did use 21 personnel more frequently than the league average in 2020 and 2019.
Now the Packers have two Day Two rookies coming in at tight end. Needless to say, Musgrave figures to be the TE1, as he has more draft capital behind him and has shown more athleticism and production than Kraft. But the Packers will probably find a way to put both on the field.
Musgrave is a better receiver than he is a blocker, and he averaged over 13.0 yards per catch in his final two seasons. He has been compared to Dallas Goedert. Tight ends rarely make a fantasy impact in their rookie seasons, but Musgrave could be a good fantasy tight end down the line.
