Free agent running back Leonard Fournette worked out for the New England Patriots on Wednesday, meaning there could be real interest between the two sides. Fournette visited the Patriots last offseason before inking a new deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fournette is coming off arguably the worst seasons of his career, but he would likely play a complementary role for the Pats on a cheap one-year deal.
Would Fournette be a good fit in New England? How would his arrival affect his fantasy outlook? Let's dive in.

Will Fournette Sign With New England?
Since Fournette visited New England last offseason before signing a new deal with the Buccaneers, so there is likely mutual interest between the two sides. Fournette's best days as a runner are likely behind him, as he rushed 189 times for just 668 yards (3.5 yards per carry) and three touchdowns in 2022.
However, he totaled 523 receiving yards on 73 receptions, so he could still have some juice as a third-down satellite back.
This is a situation worth monitoring, as his arrival could mightily decrease Rhamondre Stevenson's value and take Ty Montgomery, Pierre Strong Jr., and Kevin Harris off the fantasy radar altogether.
Would Fournette Be A Good Fit for the Patriots?
Fournette wouldn't be a bell cow running back in New England, but he could have plenty of value in PPR formats. If he's signed, there's a good chance Stevenson is relegated to the early-down role and Fournette takes the valuable third-down and two-minute offense role.
It would be interesting to see where Fournette's ADP settles if he does sign, but he'd likely have a low-end RB2 ceiling as a part of the two-back offense that isn't expected to be a high-scoring unit.
If the 28-year-old back does join the team, we'll be sure to cover his 2023 fantasy outlook in depth.
