Is Latavius Murray an RB1 in Fantasy Football?
If this article were written a few days ago, the answer would be no. However, within the last week, there have been major developments that may have changed everything for fantasy owners.
On Monday, veteran running back Melvin Gordon III was let go by the Broncos, which surprised everyone in the NFL. On Tuesday, running back Chase Edmonds was placed on injured reserve (ankle) and will miss at least the next four weeks.
What does all this mean? It means for RB-hungry fantasy managers, there's a new sheriff in town by the name of Latavius Murray.
Is Latavius Murray a Good Fantasy Football Pickup For the Rest of the Season?
Don't be mistaken, simply because Murray has been handed the keys to the front seat of the running back carousel, that doesn't necessarily mean automatic fantasy success.
Last Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, Murray ran 17 times for 49 yards and one touchdown while catching four passes for 23 yards. He had season highs with 21 opportunities and 17.2 fantasy points. With Gordon and Edmonds now completely out of the picture, those numbers will do everything but go down.
But let's keep in mind, the Broncos' offense is no juggernaut.
Should I Start Latavius Murray in Week 12 Fantasy Football?
One thing now undeniable is that Murray is the lead dog in Denver. He will get the lion's share of carries from here on out. But what will he do with them?
Murray is averaging only 3.3 yards per carry in the last five games for a weak Broncos offense. However, even when he was splitting touches with Gordon and Edmonds, he had a knack for finding the end zone. Murray has scored four touchdowns this season in just six games while averaging 11.5 fantasy points per contest.
In a league ravaged by injuries, particularly at the running back position, fantasy managers should feel confident starting Murray as an RB2.
