The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a big challenge ahead of them replacing Tom Brady as their starting quarterback. Kyle Trask is currently the only quarterback on the roster, so he's a prime candidate to lead the offense into 2023.
Trask hasn't played much since entering the NFL in 2021, so there are a lot of unknowns and question marks surrounding the 24-year-old signal caller.
Who is Kyle Trask and will he be the Buccaneers' starting QB in 2023?

Who is Kyle Trask?
At the University of Florida, Trask went 17-5 as a starter, totaling 7,386 passing yards, 69 passing touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and eight rushing touchdowns. He broke the 24-year-old program record for passing touchdowns in a season as a senior with 43 and was a Heisman finalist.
Ultimately, his breakout final year in college led him to be the final pick of the second round in the 2021 NFL Draft, seemingly to be the heir apparent to the G.O.A.T.
However, he's spent the last two seasons as the Buccaneers' QB3 behind Brady and Blaine Gabbert, so he should be viewed similarly to a rookie when and if he does get his chance to lead the team. Other than preseason action, we have no data to suggest whether he could be successful or not.
Will Kyle Trask Be The Buccaneers' Starting Quarterback in 2023?
Trask will get the chance to compete for the starting job in 2023 after Brady's retirement this offseason. This is what the Bucs told at least several candidates who interviewed for the offensive coordinator job that went to Dave Canales. Tampa also plans to add a veteran or two to compete with Trask, but they are also $56.53 million over the 2023 salary cap, so their options will be limited. The 24-year-old will be in a QB-friendly system if he's starting, but the Bucs will want him to be more of a game manager.
However, it's too early to truly know if Trask will be the QB1 in Tampa next season, as NFL front offices often keep things close to the vest. For all we know, they could be planning to make a move for a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Either way, Trask has the most familiarity of anyone they could bring in, so the job is his for the taking. It just might not be given to him without a close quarterback competition.
