Denver Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler has been plagued by injuries in his first three NFL seasons. Since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Hamler has played in just 23 of 50 possible games. He has 620 receiving yards and three touchdowns over his career.
In 2022, Hamler's season ended due to a hamstring strain suffered in practice before Week 10. Then this offseason, the 24-year-old wideout suffered another injury resulting in a surgical procedure on a partially torn pectoral.
So, is Hamler injured or healthy? Should he be drafted later in fantasy leagues? Let's take a look.
Is KJ Hamler Injured Or Healthy?
Hamler will head into Broncos training camp on the non-football injury list. He was placed on the NFI list instead of the physically unable to perform (PUP) list because his injury occurred away from the team's facility.
The former Penn State star partially tore his pectoral muscle in the spring and isn't ready for the start of training camp yet. Hamler suffered the injury on March 23. The initial timeline for Hamler's injury was four to six months following his surgery at the end of March. The four-month time frame just passed, so there's a good chance he could be cleared very soon. All Broncos veterans will report to training camp on Tuesday, July 25.
KJ Hamler Fantasy Football Outlook
Hamler has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his career so far. He has missed time due to multiple hamstring strains, a concussion, and an ACL tear during the 2021 season. So, it's hard to trust the young wideout to stay healthy this year.
Even if he manages to play all 17 games for the Broncos, the 24-year-old wideout shouldn't be targeted in most fantasy leagues this season. With Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton locked into the top two wide receiver spots in Denver, Hamler will have to compete with Tim Patrick and rookie Marvin Mims Jr. for the WR3 job.
Hamler saw a solid amount of snaps last season before his injury, totaling 50-plus percent of the team snaps in five of the seven games he played but the wideout averaged just 3.7 PPR fantasy points per game in 2022. He'll have a hard time making a fantasy impact again this year, given Denver's crowded wide receiver room.
