The Seattle Seahawks were the surprise team of the 2022 season. Many expected them to finish last in the NFC West division after trading away Russell Wilson.
Instead, the Seahawks ended the year with a 9-8 record and made the playoffs. While the team lost in the first round, Seattle had a successful season.
However, the team threw a curve ball during the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite spending a second-round pick on Kenneth Walker III in 2022, the Seahawks used a second-round selection on Zach Charbonnet this year.

What Did The Seahawks Running Backs Accomplish Last Year?
Walker started his rookie year backing up Rashaad Penny in Seattle. However, he took over as the featured back in Week 6 after Penny suffered a season-ending injury. The running back finished second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award race behind Garrett Wilson.
The rookie ended the year with 228 rushing attempts for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns. Walker also had 27 receptions on 35 targets for 165 receiving yards. Furthermore, he and Tyler Allgeier were the only two rookies with over 1,000 rushing yards last season.
Meanwhile, Charbonnet had an outstanding season at UCLA. The former Bruin had 195 rushing attempts for 1,359 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. He led the Pac-12 in rushing yards and second in rushing attempts. Furthermore, Charbonnet finished third in the conference with 14 touchdowns in 2022.
More importantly, the former Bruin played a critical role in the passing game. Charbonnet had 37 receptions for 321 receiving yards in 2022. He finished third on the team in receptions and fourth in receiving yards.
Who Will Be The Top Running Back For The Seahawks In 2023?
The Seahawks gave the fantasy community the double bird when they drafted Charbonnet. Their draft night decision severely impacted the fantasy value of Charbonnet and Walker. Meanwhile, head coach Pete Carroll says the two running backs will compete for the starting role.
Ideally, Walker keeps the lead role, with Charbonnet taking over in short-yardage and goal-line situations. However, fantasy players will need to see how things shake out over the next few months. Hopefully, we get some clarity by the end of training camp.
