The Philadelphia Eagles running back room was difficult to project after the departure of Miles Sanders and the additions of Rashaad Penny and D'Andre Swift this offseason. After Kenneth Gainwell played with the team's starters for most of the offseason and preseason, he looked like the clear lead back in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots.
However, the Memphis product is dealing with an injury ahead of the Thursday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings. His availability for the contest will mightily affect start-or-sit decisions to begin Week 2.
Is Gainwell playing this week? What is his fantasy outlook if he is playing? Let's dive in.

Is Kenneth Gainwell Playing In Week 2 Against the Vikings?
Gainwell (rib) is dealing with a rib injury and remains a wait-and-see for the team's Week 2 game on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings.
Gainwell was listed as a non-participant on the team's estimated injury report on Monday and did not take the field on Tuesday, so his status is one to keep an eye on this week, especially after he served as the leader of the team's backfield in their Week 1 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.
If he's inactive, Swift will become an intriguing fantasy option in flex spots. Penny, who was a healthy scratch in Week 1, would likely be active.
Kenneth Gainwell Week 2 Fantasy Outlook
Gainwell turned 18 total touches (14 rushes, four receptions) into 74 yards in Week 1. It was not an earth-shattering performance, but his usage as the overwhelming opportunity share leader was surprising. Swift and Boston Scott combined for just 13 yards on four touches.
Against the Vikings, who limited Rachaad White in Week 1, Gainwell is a favorable flex option behind the Eagles' elite offensive line if he's good to go. That said, he could see a limited workload since the team has a quick turnaround for Thursday night's games.
These situations are difficult to navigate, so hopefully, there will be more clarity later in the week.
If he doesn't play, D'Andre Swift should be a flex consideration in PPR leagues of all sizes.
