Veteran safety Justin Simmons was a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. Simmons has been one of the top safeties in the NFL since getting drafted, totaling 30 career interceptions.
Last year, he had three interceptions, making it the sixth straight year that the veteran safety hit that total. Furthermore, Simmons was named to the Associated Press All-Pro second team, making it the fifth consecutive season that the veteran made an All-Pro team.
Simmons has spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the Broncos. However, which team will he play for in 2024?

Is Justin Simmons A Free Agent?
The former Boston College star is a free agent. Denver released Simmons earlier this offseason, saving the team over $14 million in salary cap space. The Broncos are undergoing a youth moment with Sean Payton at the helm. Unfortunately, that meant the end of Simmons’ time in Denver.

Which Teams Could Sign Justin Simmons?
Surprisingly, the veteran remains on the open market despite being one of the top safeties in the league over the past few years. Simmons has been a turnover machine, totaling 19 over the past four seasons. He led the NFL with six interceptions in 2022. Furthermore, the veteran has more career interceptions against Patrick Mahomes than anyone else in the league.
No other player has more interceptions on Patrick Mahomes than Justin Simmons which is at a career 5

How is he still a free agent?

Several teams could use Simmons on their roster. One potential landing spot is the New York Jets. The team improved their offensive line this offseason but didn’t do much at the safety position. Simmons would be an excellent addition alongside Chuck Clark.
Another potential landing spot is the Los Angeles Chargers. Derwin James Jr. is one of the top safeties in the NFL, but Alohi Gilman isn’t an above-average starter. Simmons has history in the AFC West and could face his former team twice a year.
An under-the-radar landing spot is the Carolina Panthers. While the team has invested in the safety position lately with Jordan Fuller and Xavier Woods, Simmons played for defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Denver. That relationship could be enough for the veteran safety to sign with the Panthers.
