Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was a polarizing first-round fantasy football draft pick this year. Many were concerned that he couldn’t put up top-tier fantasy numbers with Sam Darnold as his quarterback.
However, the Vikings are 2-0 following their 23-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. More importantly, Jefferson is the WR4 for the year, averaging 17.6 half-point PPR fantasy points.
Unfortunately, the superstar wide receiver suffered an injury late in yesterday’s win. When will he return? Let’s dive into it.

Is Justin Jefferson Hurt Or Healthy?
Jefferson suffered a quad contusion after taking a shot in the leg from 49ers’ linebacker Fred Warner. Initially, many feared that the superstar receiver suffered a significant leg injury after he was helped off the field. Thankfully, the team is listing him as day-to-day with the quad contusion. Jefferson says he doesn’t expect to miss any game action.

Justin Jefferson Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook
The news couldn’t be better for the Vikings, fans, and fantasy players. Jefferson missed seven games and left two others early in 2023. Yet he still had over 1,000 receiving yards, showing off his ability to put up significant numbers despite dealing with injuries.
More importantly, the superstar is coming off an outstanding Week 2 performance, totaling four receptions on seven targets for 133 receiving yards and a 97-yard touchdown in the second quarter. While Darnold has only had to attempt 50 pass attempts this season, Jefferson has a 26% target share, totaling half of the team’s receiving touchdowns.

Jefferson faces the Houston Texans in Week 3. Houston shut down Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears' passing attack last night. However, expect the Vikings to have more success than the Bears. Their offensive line is significantly better.
Furthermore, Jefferson should have no trouble making downfield plays against the Texans after they surrendered three receptions of 50 or more receiving yards to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.
