The saying is true. The quarterback is the most important position in sports. If you don't have a good one, you should probably just stay home on Sundays.
Luckily for the Los Angeles Chargers, they have Justin Herbert, one of the best signal callers in the NFL. He is a phenomenal talent, and it appears he is staying in California a little bit longer.
Did the team just sign Herbert to a new extension? If so, how much is it worth and what does it mean? Let's take a closer look.

Is Justin Herbert Worth His New Record-Setting Extension?
The Chargers finished 2022 with a 10-7 record and a second-place finish. After losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars and playing only one playoff game, they have their sites set higher this upcoming season.
The main reason for confidence coming out of Chargers camp this summer is the news that their quarterback has inked a new contract extension estimated at 262.5 million dollars over five years. The deal makes him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history based on average annual value ($52.5 million).
Is Herbert worth this massive commitment? The short answer is yes. He is a proven star, he plays the most important position in sports, he's young, and his future is as bright as the Northern Lights.
Will Herbert Have a Monster Fantasy Season In 2023?
If healthy, the 25-year-old is in line for a potentially monstrous upcoming season. Last year, the flamethrower threw for 4,739 yards and 25 touchdowns. Not his best statistical campaign, but he is now in his prime and should produce at an even higher level in 2023.
If your fantasy football league puts a premium on the production of the quarterback position, you can't go wrong by drafting the 6' 6" former University of Oregon product. He has all the tools to lead your team to a championship.
There is no questioning that he is a top-10 fantasy QB, and perhaps even top-five. He has the weapons surrounding him to be elite in 2023 and also has the utmost trust of the coaching staff. The pieces are all in place for Herbert to have a breakout season beginning this September.
