Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was on a tear in Weeks 4 and 5. He had a combined 43 completions for 617 yards and eight touchdowns against the Denver Broncos and the Washington Commanders. He also added 15 carries for 82 yards.
But as impressive as he was in those games, he struggled in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. The former Ohio State standout completed only six throws for 58 yards and an interception and had eight carries for 46 yards.
The dislocated thumb that forced him to check out of the game in the third quarter could be the reason for his struggles. Since Fields didn’t finish that game versus their division rivals, is he in jeopardy of missing their Week 7 contest?
Justin Fields Is Listed Doubtful in Week 7
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that Fields had a dislocated thumb that won’t require surgery. But while the injury won’t force him to miss an extensive period of time, he is doubtful to play against the Raiders.
Even Eberflus doesn’t know when Fields will return to action. However, a great indicator of his timetable is his grip strength. He can step into the field again if he doesn’t feel any discomfort in holding the ball.
Justin Fields suffered the injury when he landed on his right arm after getting sacked by Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter. He went to the injury tent before heading to the Bears’ locker room. The initial X-rays done to him returned negative results.
Despite the injury, Fields worked with athletic trainers last Monday. However, his absence can pave the way for Tyson Bagent to start.
Seeing him sidelined is an unfortunate development, especially after getting 28 and 33 fantasy points in Weeks 4 and 5. He could have had a solid stat line against the Raiders, given that Las Vegas ranks 21st in rushing yards allowed. However, the Raiders defense surrendered only 193.7 passing yards per game, the eighth-best in the league.
Justin Fields could have been a viable fantasy football option in Week 7 because of his mobility. But the injury report on him could be crucial for fantasy managers who are planning accordingly for his status.
