Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has had a breakout sophomore season. The former Ohio State star is the QB5 for the year, averaging 19.7 fantasy points per game.
The second-year quarterback started the year slowly, averaging only 117.8 passing yards and 10.4 fantasy points per game over the first four contests. However, Fields has been on fire lately. Over the past nine contests, the star quarterback has averaged 25.5 fantasy points per game, making him the QB2 during that span.
Unfortunately, the young quarterback has dealt with injuries this season. He missed the Week 12 matchup against the New York Jets with a shoulder injury. More importantly, Fields suffered a hip injury last week against the Detroit Lions.

Is Justin Fields Healthy Or Injured?
While he was able to finish last week’s contest despite the hip injury, Fields won’t play in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy players shouldn’t be surprised that the star quarterback won’t play this week. The Bears have been eliminated from the playoffs for weeks. Furthermore, they can secure the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft if they lose this week combined with a Houston Texans win.
The star quarterback’s 2022 season is over, but his future is incredibly bright. Fields should get drafted as a top-five quarterback next year.
With Fields out this week and Trevor Siemian on injured reserve, Nathan Peterman will get his first start this year on Sunday. However, should fantasy players start the veteran quarterback? The answer is no.
Should I Start Nathan Peterman With Justin Fields Out?
Instead of starting Peterman this week, fantasy players should add and start Jarrett Stidham. The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback is available in over 99% of ESPN leagues.
Last week Stidham made his first start this season. Despite facing an excellent San Francisco 49ers defense, the veteran quarterback had three passing touchdowns and 26 fantasy points. Furthermore, he and Patrick Mahomes are the only two quarterbacks with three or more passing touchdowns against the 49ers this year.
Meanwhile, Stidham faces the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. Kansas City has surrendered 19.9 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, one of the highest averages in the NFL. Furthermore, they have given up two or more passing touchdowns in 75% of their games this season.
