Is Justin Fields Chicago's Starting Quarterback In 2023? Fantasy Football Outlook

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields had an excellent 2022 season. The star quarterback had 2,242 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. He more than doubled his passing touchdown production from his rookie season.

However, Fields’ biggest impact came in the running game. After averaging 35 rushing yards per game as a rookie, the star quarterback averaged 76.2 rushing yards per game in 2022. Furthermore, his 7.1 yards per rushing attempt led the NFL.

More importantly, Fields was a fantasy superstar last season. He ended the year as the QB6, averaging 19.7 fantasy points per game despite missing two games because of injury. Furthermore, the second-year quarterback averaged the same fantasy points per game as Lamar Jackson last year.

Is Justin Fields Chicago's Starting Quarterback In 2023?

Despite his excellent sophomore season, Fields isn’t a lock to be Chicago’s starting quarterback next season. The Bears have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Alabama’s Bryce Young is the top quarterback in this year's draft and likely the first player drafted.

Chicago says Fields is their guy but will wisely do their homework on the quarterbacks in the draft this year.

While it sounds like Fields will be back with the team in 2023, nothing is a guarantee. If the Bears decide to draft Young with the first overall pick, several teams will be interested in trading for Fields.

Who Could Potentially Trade For Justin Fields?

There are multiple quarterback-needy teams this offseason. While teams like the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts will likely draft a rookie, Chicago will have no trouble finding a trade partner for their franchise quarterback.

One potential landing spot is the Atlanta Falcons. They recently released Marcus Mariota, creating roughly $12 million in salary cap space. Reportedly Atlanta has high expectations for Desmond Ridder. However, the Falcons won’t close the door on bringing in another quarterback this offseason.

Fields grew up near Atlanta and started his college career at the University of Georgia before transferring to Ohio State. Last year the Falcons were in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes before he picked the Cleveland Browns.

Another potential landing spot is the Las Vegas Raiders. After releasing Derek Carr earlier this month, the Raiders don’t have a starting quarterback on the roster. While they are in the mix to trade for Aaron Rodgers, Fields would be a cheaper and younger option.
