Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs has been a pleasant fantasy surprise. The fourth-year running back is averaging 20.6 half-point PPR fantasy points per game this season, a career-high.
Things looked awful for Jacobs in the preseason. He was the only starter to play in the Hall of Fame game in August, resulting in the entire fantasy community panicking over the running back. However, the veteran has proved everyone wrong.
Unfortunately, Jacobs showed up on the injury report this week with a foot injury. Is his status for Week 8 in doubt?

Is Josh Jacobs Healthy or Injured?
While the star running back is dealing with a foot injury, no reports have suggested he could miss Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
If Jacobs is active for the Raiders, he belongs in all fantasy lineups. Last week the Saints gave up 106 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 32 half-point PPR fantasy points to Eno Benjamin and Keaontay Ingram.
Furthermore, the Raiders star is the RB4 for the year in half-point PPR scoring. Yet, Jacobs is the RB2 on a points-per-game basis, averaging only 0.6 fewer fantasy points per game than the RB1, Austin Ekeler.
Who Could I Target Off the Waiver Wire?
Barring something unforeseen, Jacobs will play this week. However, it’s always best to have a backup plan in place.
If the star running back doesn’t play, the rookie Zamir White will be a popular last-minute waiver-wire addition. He is rostered in under 2.5% of ESPN leagues, so fantasy players should have no trouble picking up the rookie.
However, fantasy players should consider three other potential waiver wire targets: Khalil Herbert, Chuba Hubbard, and Latavius Murray. All three are available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues.
Of the three, Herbert is my favorite. The second-year running back has earned more work lately, and the team wants his role to continue to grow.
Last week, the former Virginia Tech star had 12 rushing attempts against the New England Patriots. The 12 attempts were the most Herbert ever had in a game David Montgomery started and finished.
While Montgomery isn’t going away, Herbert is getting enough touches to warrant starting as a flex player most weeks.
