Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Jordan Romano has been one of the top closers in baseball over the past few years. He is coming off back-to-back 36 save seasons and has the fourth most saves (95) since the start of the 2021 season. That makes Romano one of the better closer options in fantasy this year.
However, the right-hander is dealing with an injury that could keep him from missing the start of the season. Romano is currently dealing with elbow inflammation and is shut down from throwing.
Is Romano's elbow issue serious? Will he be ready for Opening Day? Let's dive in and find out.

Jordan Romano Injury Update
Romano has appeared in five spring training games, where he has allowed just one earned run across 4.1 innings pitched and six strikeouts. However, he hasn't appeared in a game since March 10 due to an elbow injury.
Romano is reportedly dealing with elbow inflammation and has been shut down from throwing. The Blue Jays originally said on March 19 that the right-hander would be shut down from throwing for three days. That shutdown period has ended, and the plan is for the closer to play catch on Saturday, March 23.

Romano is a big part of Toronto's bullpen, and they can't afford to miss him for too long. With Opening Day less than one week away, there might not be enough time for the right-hander to be ready. If there is any positive news for Romano's injury, though, it's that his MRI showed no structural damage.
Jordan Romano Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Elbow injuries are the worst type of issue for pitchers to have. Nonetheless, the Blue Jays remain confident that this is only a minor issue, so there should be no major adjustments to Romano's average draft position (ADP).
With the right-hander set to play catch on Saturday, there is some optimism that he will be back soon. However, there remains a risk that he will start the season on the injured list. The Blue Jays likely won't decide that, though, until next week -- depending on Romano's progress.

The 30-year-old veteran has been a consistent reliever in fantasy since 2021, and that shouldn't change this year. Even if he misses the first two weeks of the regular season, he's still worth his 81.2 ADP because of his high save potential.
