The San Francisco 49ers have a backup running back problem, though it's a good one to have. While current second-string back Jordan Mason (shoulder) had some nice games early in the season, he's currently suffering from a shoulder joint sprain. In his absence rookie RB Isaac Guerendo has looked incredibly explosive.
The freshman back has ripped off multiple huge plays and has shown an ability to succeed in head coach Kyle Shanahan's elite offensive scheme. He's been able to produce plenty of fantastic fantasy running back seasons with his personnel, and both Mason and Guerendo have had great games so far.
So is Mason or Guerendo the RB2 for the 49ers now? What are their fantasy football outlooks?
Is Jordan Mason or Isaac Guerendo The RB2 For the 49ers?
Shanahan is typically reluctant to give rookies big workloads. In addition, there won't be a huge workload put on the RB2's shoulders, so it's not like a poor performance in one game would require the HC to bench a player. Despite this, the two backs will probably play in some kind of rotation.
49ers rookie RB Isaac Guerendo had a heck of a month in October:
• 30 carries
• 208 yards rushing
• 6.9 yards per carry
• 1 touchdown
• 4 rushes of 10+ yards
• 5 forced missed tackles
• 2 game sealing runsEven with CMC back, Kyle should still give the rookie (as well as… pic.twitter.com/fEOHVlntei

It's likely that the depth chart will remain the same, but you have to think the rookie is the team's second-best option. He far outplayed Mason on a per-touch basis, and his raw athleticism is something offensive coaches salivate over. He's also not dealt with injuries this season.
Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo's Fantasy Football Outlooks
There's not a lot of upside to be had here, even if McCaffrey ends up dealing with injuries again and misses more time. We could see a split backfield or we couldn't -- there simply isn't enough information yet.

Shanny keeps his cards close to his chest, so we won't get the information we want from him. We'll just need to see how many touches each back gets in the next few games.
