Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is one of the NFL’s top weapons in the run game. The veteran running back is also a fantasy football superstar, posting multiple top-six finishes in his career.
Unfortunately, he has struggled with injuries the past few years after not missing a game his first two seasons in the league. Taylor missed multiple games and needed surgery after suffering a high ankle sprain during the 2022 season.
The former Wisconsin star suffered another high ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Will Taylor play in Week 5, or should fantasy players plan to be without their superstar running backs this week?

Is Jonathan Taylor Injured or Playing In Week 5?
Taylor didn’t practice on Wednesday because of the high ankle sprain. The superstar running back says he is fine and won’t rule out playing Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, fantasy players should be prepared to see Taylor sit out at least one game with his injury.

Hopefully, he can get back on the field sooner than later. Taylor has been outstanding this season, averaging one rushing touchdown and 17.4 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Trey Sermon would get the bulk of the backfield touches with Taylor out of the lineup.
Should I Start Trey Sermon?
Sermon has barely played during his time with the Colts because of Taylor and Zack Moss. However, the veteran running back is a borderline must-start RB2 in Week 5 if Taylor can’t play. He has averaged 0.93 fantasy points per rushing attempt. More importantly, his matchup is fantasy-friendly.

It remains to be seen if Taylor will miss Week 5.

The Jaguars have surrendered 24.4 fantasy points per game to running backs this year, the seventh-most in the NFL. They have given up at least 78 rushing yards to running backs in three consecutive contests. Fantasy players can confidently start Sermon on Sunday if Taylor can’t play because of the high ankle sprain.
