The Carolina Panthers made the biggest trade this offseason. They acquired the No. 1 overall pick from the Chicago Bears. Carolina sent Chicago the ninth and 61st overall picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. They also traded away a 2024 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick.
Unfortunately, the Bears were determined to improve Justin Fields’ receiving core this offseason. They demanded the Panthers trade them DJ Moore. Carolina made the right decision and sent the star wide receiver to Chicago in the deal for the top draft selection.
After losing Moore in the trade with the Bears, the Panthers added a pair of veterans in free agency. However, Adam Thielen and DJ Chark are not long-term solutions. Therefore, it’s no surprise the Panthers used their second-round pick on Ole Miss wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.

What Did Jonathan Mingo Accomplish At Ole Miss?
The former Ole Miss wide receiver didn’t have massive numbers over the first three years of his college career. Mingo totaled 61 receptions for 897 receiving yards and seven touchdowns from 2019 through 2021, recording under 400 receiving yards every year. However, things changed last season.
Mingo had 51 receptions for 861 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2022, all career highs. The Ole Miss star finished seventh in the SEC with 861 receiving yards and ninth in the conference with a 16.9 yards per receptions average. More importantly, he led the Rebels in receiving touchdowns.
Is Jonathan Mingo A Good Fit For The Panthers?
Panther fans and fantasy players should be excited about Mingo. He continues a recent trend of talented second-round wide receivers from Ole Miss.
Mingo is one of my favorite dynasty rookie draft picks this year. Thielen is the No. 1 wide receiver for Carolina this year. However, he is getting up there in age and won’t be around past the 2024 season. Meanwhile, Chark has never been a consistent player. Furthermore, he only signed a one-year deal with the team in March.
The former Ole Miss wide receiver will start his rookie year lower on the depth chart. However, fantasy players shouldn’t be surprised if Mingo is a starter by Halloween.
