Burrow is coming off another elite season with the Bengals, throwing for 4,475 yards and a career-high 35 touchdowns. He finished fourth in MVP voting and was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2022. The injury, though, remains the biggest concern.
Is Burrow injured or healthy? Is the injury serious? Let's dive in.
Is Joe Burrow Injured or Healthy?
It's never a good thing to see your star quarterback go down, especially with a non-contact injury. When Joe Burrow ran up in the pocket, it looked like he hurt his right calf. Interestingly enough, the 26-year-old star was already wearing a sleeve across that calf, so something could have been bothering him already.
The news from head coach Zac Taylor is that Burrow suffered a calf strain during practice. Many thought that an Achilles injury was possible, given the nature of how it happened. The gun-slinging quarterback will still likely miss multiple weeks as he recovers from the injury.
Calf injuries are always tricky to put a timeline on. They can really range anywhere from one week to six weeks, depending on the severity of the strain. The Bengals still don't have a timeline on Burrow's injury, but they're hoping to know more after he undergoes more testing on Friday.
Joe Burrow 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Drafting before preseason games is always risky because of the countless injuries that can occur. The hope is that Burrow just suffered a calf strain and nothing more. Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was also confident following the quarterback's exit and said "I believe he's alright."
Until we hear more about the severity of the injury, Burrow should be drafted in fantasy leagues this season. Even if the injury takes him out for the first couple of games, the superstar's fantasy value shouldn't drastically drop. He finished as the QB4 in 2022.
Burrow remains one of the best fantasy quarterback options in 2023, and he should finish toward the top of that position again this season. He's currently the fourth quarterback off the board in drafts. Let's just hope the injury isn't worse than what the initial reports are saying.
