Injuries have been a disastrous part of Jimmy Garoppolo’s career ever since he became a starting quarterback. In the five full seasons he spent with the San Francisco 49ers, he played 15 or more games only twice.
His injury list during his time in San Francisco includes an ACL tear in 2018, a high ankle sprain in 2020, and a foot injury last year. His latest injury even prompted a clause in his contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, stating that the team owes him nothing if he didn’t pass a physical.
Unfortunately, Garoppolo’s health woes continue after a back injury he suffered in Week 6 against his former team, the New England Patriots. Reports reveal that he might sit out the Raiders’ Week 7 game against the Chicago Bears.

Jimmy Garoppolo Isn't A Viable Fantasy Option, Even If Healthy
Garoppolo left their game against the Patriots early after a hit by the Patriots’ Jahlani Tavai. He was visibly in pain after that sequence even if he tried to push on. The abrupt exit had him finish the game with 14 completions for 162 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
He was transported via an ambulance to a local medical facility for further assessment. Brian Hoyer took over in his absence as the Raiders completed a 21-17 victory.
A day after the game, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels shared that while Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t finish the game, he may have avoided a major injury. However, it doesn’t rule out the fact that he may miss some games. Garoppolo already missed their Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, giving Aidan O’Connell an opportunity to start.
Likewise, nothing is certain until the Raiders release their injury report for Week 7, which could come out by Wednesday. At that point, it shall be known if Garoppolo fully participated in practice or not. But after what McDaniels said, either he is a limited participant or won’t practice at all.
Playing against the Bears could have given him a good opportunity to rack up the stats for a better fantasy football output. The Bears rank 29th in passing yards allowed (267.3) and points (29.3) per game. Chicago also surrenders 20.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, the fourth-most through Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season.
Despite that golden opportunity, Jimmy Garoppolo’s interception rate is alarming. He threw one pick against the Patriots, bringing his total to a league-leading eight. Therefore, it’s best to stay away from him if you’re on one-quarterback leagues, granted that he will be cleared to play in Week 7.
