San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo hasn't appeared in a game since Week 13, but there's a chance he could be cleared to play in either the NFC Championship game or Super Bowl if the team makes it.
However, rookie Brock Purdy has played excellently since taking over as the starting signal-caller, so there's no guarantee he'd see action. It'll be an interesting situation to monitor heading into the weekend.
Is Garoppolo going to be active this postseason and would he start if he's cleared to play? Let's dive in.

Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Update for Fantasy Football
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that quarterback Garoppolo (foot) will have X-rays on his injured foot on Tuesday, and the head coach would be very surprised if Garoppolo made it back on the field this week. The Niners all along had been holding out hope that Jimmy G. could make a return if they made a deep playoff run, but the 31-year-old signal-caller hasn't played since Week 13 because of a broken left foot.
Since Garoppolo has been out, Purdy has started every game, with veteran journeyman Josh Johnson serving as his backup.
Will Jimmy Garoppolo Start If Active?
In 10 games played (including playoffs), Purdy has thrown for 1,920 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. The last pick of the 2022 NFL draft is a perfect 9-0 in the games in which he started. That said, it's tough to imagine a scenario where the 49ers would roll with Garoppolo unless something extreme and unexpected happens.
If Jimmy G. is active for either the NFC Championship or a potential Super Bowl game, he'd likely only see action in the case of a Purdy injury or if Purdy had a disastrous start to a game.
It's more likely than not that we've seen the last passing attempt for Garoppolo in a 49ers uniform, as he'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
