New York Giants running back James Robinson was an undrafted free agent in 2020. The former Illinois State star signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and became a fantasy star.
Robinson was the RB7 as a rookie, averaging 16.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He ended the year with 240 rushing attempts for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns. The rookie also had 49 receptions on 60 targets for 344 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2020. However, the Jaguars drafted Travis Etienne Jr. in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, severely hampering Robinson’s fantasy value.
Unfortunately, Etienne suffered a season-ending foot injury during the preseason. With the rookie out of the way, Robinson had another productive year, totaling 195 touches for 989 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns. Sadly, the second-year back suffered a torn Achilles in Week 15, ending his season.

What Did James Robinson Accomplish In 2022?
Many thought the former undrafted free agent would miss the first few weeks of the 2022 season recovering from a torn Achilles. Instead, Robinson played in Week 1, totaling 12 touches for 69 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns.
Unfortunately, the veteran started to struggle in Week 4. He averaged only 3.7 yards per rushing attempt over his final four games with the Jaguars. After 2.5 years with the team, Jacksonville traded Robinson to the New York Jets.
The veteran running back had a decent start with the Jets. He had 18 rushing attempts for 65 yards over his first two games in New York. Furthermore, Robinson scored his only touchdown with the team in the Week 9 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Unfortunately, the former undrafted free agent had only 29 rushing attempts for 85 yards and zero touchdowns in four contests with the team.
Earlier this offseason, Robinson signed with the New England Patriots. However, the team released the veteran running back in June.
Is James Robinson A Good Fit For The Giants?
The Giants signed James Robinson on Friday. With Saquon Barkley threatening to sit out the 2023 NFL season over his contract, adding the veteran running back is an excellent move for New York.
Yet, the fantasy impact is still to be determined. If Barkley sits out the entire season, Robinson should be the lead running back ahead of Matt Breida and rookie Eric Gray. However, the veteran won’t have any significant fantasy value if Barkley shows up before Week 1.
