Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston will get his first crack at more playing time for his team after starting quarterback Deshaun Watson (Achilles') tore his Achilles' tendon and was declared out for the remainder of the 2024 season. It will be a big shakeup for a struggling offense.
Cleveland has fielded one of the worst offensive attacks in the league this season, and the blame was squarely on Watson's shoulders. He had one of the worst seasons in NFL history at his position in metrics that attempt to isolate quarterback production independently of surrounding talent.
So what did Winston do in Week 7 in his place? Will he be a good fantasy football pickup for Week 8?

What Did Jameis Winston Do In Week 7?
Unfortunately, we didn't actually get to see much of Winston. While the starter got hurt with 1:22 left in the second quarter, leaving plenty of time for the backups to play, it was actually Dorian Thompson-Robinson (finger) who got the nod initially, and he was pulled from the game after suffering an injury of his own.

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer finally got his chance to play in the fourth quarter after DTR left with a finger injury. Winston then led the team on a scoring drive, capping it off with an impressive touchdown pass to tight end David Njoku.

The game was out of reach at this point, but he fared much better than Thompson-Robinson, who threw two interceptions.
Is Jameis Winston A Good Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickup In Week 8?
Yes. He was the author of a legendary season in which he threw for over 5,000 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. If he can replicate anything resembling this level of play, Cleveland can continue tanking for a higher draft pick, and both Winston and the entire offense will be filled with players who could be fantasy dynamite.

He's a spectacle to watch and a huge boon for fantasy football. He's not afraid to sling wild throws down the field that have great chances at creating big plays as well as turnovers. He should be added in all leagues with 12 or more teams. He may not become an every-week starter, but he has a great chance at being at least backup-worthy.
