The Alabama Crimson Tide football team has seen a mass exodus of players via the transfer portal following Nick Saban's decision to step down. Quarterback Jalen Milroe was one of the team's breakout stars in 2023, so his status on the roster will be key for new head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Jalen Milroe 2023 Season Review
In 13 games, Milroe completed 187 of his 284 passing attempts for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions. On the ground, he piled up 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was sacked 44 times, and sack yardage counts against quarterbacks in college, so he was more dynamic as a rusher than his stats suggest.
Against LSU in early November, the 20-year-old rushed 20 times for 155 yards and four touchdowns. After a tough start to the season, he led Alabama to an SEC title game win over the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama narrowly lost to Michigan in overtime in the semifinals, but Milroe established himself as one of the best offensive players in the nation.

Is Jalen Milroe Staying at Alabama or Transferring?
Despite more than 20 of his teammates entering the transfer portal, Milroe decided to stick around for new head coach Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer has a 104-12 career record as a college head coach, and he led the Washington Huskies to the College Football Playoff National Championship last month. There's reason for optimism, and Milroe is going to be a part of the transition from Saban to DeBoer.

The former Washington coach helped Michael Penix Jr. develop into the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2023 and has been known for his high-powered offenses, but the program will have to hope it can adequately replace its outgoing transfers at wide receiver and offensive line.
