The New England Patriots signed 2019 third-round pick Jalen Hurd after he impressed at a workout for free agents. Hurd battled injuries over this three-year stint on the 49ers roster, but he has a ton of talent and could sneak his way onto the Patriots roster.
Obviously, the 27-year-old has an uphill battle to get himself onto the field and play legitimate snaps, but it could be a situation worth monitoring during training camp.
Is Hurd a good fit with the Patriots? Will he make the 53-man roster? Let's dive in.

Jalen Hurd Career Review
Hurd was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and began his collegiate career as a running back for the University of Tennessee. He rushed 589 times for 2,635 yards and 20 touchdowns in three seasons before transferring to Baylor.
At Baylor, he transitioned into a wide receiver, but still handle some backfield work. The 6'4" dynamic playmaker totaled 1,155 yards of offense and seven touchdowns in his final collegiate season.
In three seasons with the 49ers, he was placed on injured reserve in October 2019, August 2020, and September 2021. He was released before ever logging a regular season snap for the San Francisco and was not on a team in 2022.
Will Hurd Make The Patriots Roster?
While Hurd could have a tough time making the roster, New England has been known to give everyone a fair shake -- regardless of draft capital and previous career success. New England has one of the worst wide receiver groups in the NFL, so crazier things have happened than Hurd making the team.
It would be surprising if Hurd is a real contributor for the Patriots in 2023, but if he proves to have special teams abilities, he could earn a reserve role. That said, him making the team should not be the expectation at the start of training camp.
