Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was the 129th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Ferguson had a productive college career, totaling 145 receptions on 1,618 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in four years at Wisconsin.
Unfortunately, the former Badger had a quiet rookie season. Dalton Schultz was the starting tight end for the Cowboys last season, totaling 57 receptions on 89 targets for 577 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 15 games. Meanwhile, the rookie had only 19 receptions on 22 targets for 174 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
However, Ferguson was a popular sleeper candidate this year. Dak Prescott has historically liked throwing to his tight ends. The former Wisconsin star had 10 receptions on 18 targets for 70 receiving yards and a touchdown over the first three weeks this season.

What Did Jake Ferguson Accomplish In Week 4?
While many fantasy football experts said the second-year tight end wasn’t a good starting option in Week 4, Ferguson had other ideas. He caught all seven targets for 77 receiving yards against the New England Patriots. Furthermore, Ferguson led the team in receptions, targets, and receiving yards in the win.
Is Jake Ferguson A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 5?
Unfortunately, the tight end position has been disappointing for fantasy players this year. Several big-name tight ends haven’t lived up to the hype like Kyle Pitts and Dallas Goedert. However, Ferguson is an excellent waiver wire addition for teams hurting at the tight end position.
The former Wisconsin star has become a go-to weapon for Prescott. Ferguson is second on the team in receptions and targets. He is third in receiving yards but leads the Cowboys in receiving touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the second-year tight end faces the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5. Last week, Zach Ertz had six receptions on 10 targets for 53 receiving yards and 8.3 half-point PPR fantasy points against the 49ers. The veteran tight end would have had a better fantasy performance but dropped a touchdown late in the game.
With multiple big-name tight ends struggling and four teams on a bye in Week 5, Ferguson is the top waiver wire target at the tight end position this week.
